Annual wellness exams are important at every age, even when your pet is young and appears healthy. Wellness testing (such as bloodwork) can catch problems early on when treatment options are more likely to be effective and before your pet becomes critically ill and needs more stressful, and more costly, intervention.
At your pet’s wellness exam, one of our doctors will perform a head-to-tail inspection, checking your pet’s fur, skin, eyes, nose, and mouth for any abnormalities. Your pet’s doctor will also check your pet’s heart and weight and administer appropriate vaccines. We adhere to AAHA guidelines for cat and dog vaccinations, but we will also make recommendations based on your pet’s risk factors. For instance, during an outbreak of canine influenza, we will strongly suggest adding the flu vaccine to your dog’s vaccination protocol.
We might also suggest blood, urine, or stool samples to help us spot underlying illnesses, diseases, or parasites.
Your pet’s wellness exam is also the perfect time to discuss flea and tick prevention. There are a lot of options available, and we can review the best ways to control fleas in your home, yard, and on your pet.
For your convenience, drop-off appointments are available for our established patients, and our on-site pharmacy offers a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, and heartworm preventives for your pet.
Bringing your cat or dog to the doctor every year for a checkup is one of the most effective ways to ensure your pet’s ongoing health.
